Surat to Rann Utsav: Amalgamation of Culture, Nature, and Tranquility

Rann Utsav is the carnival of cultural extravaganza set against the background of the white dunes of Kutch in Gujarat. The festival is one of a kind. For a few months, the white sand desert transforms into the abode of hundreds of stylish and sleek tents erected for guest lodgings. The evenings of Rann get bright with lighting. The arid atmosphere comes alive with

traditional dance and music performances. The otherwise tranquil desert region turns into a playground for adventure activities. Even as the winter breezes of Kutch cajole the travelers.

On the full Moon of Utsav,  the moonbeam falls on the sand. Then salt crystals in the sand glitter like a gem under the reflection.  Witness such magical moments under the spell of a full moon night. People from all over the world arrive to marvel at the splendors of eternity and learn about the arts and customs of Kutch.

A festival with a mission

The idea of a Rann utsav materialized in 2006 at the hands of the Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Since then there have been no turnbacks. The festival which was a 3-day event turned into a mega carnival of 3 months. Such is the growing recognition and popularity of Rann Utsav. The aim was to show the ethnic culture and diversity of Kutch to the rest of the world. Now the world sings Humne Kutch Dekha.

Rann Utsav celebrates tents. These tents are spacious and self-contained but they can be rolled up after the festival and used for next year. So minimizing the use of resources. Another factor is the deployment of E rickshaws in the tent city. This vehicle is used inside the tent city to tour the visitors throughout the vast expanse of desert. Access to free Internet services and hassle-free digital transactions in desert regions are noteworthy.
